She accompanied her parents and her younger brother on the voyage. The ships records indicate that she was 3 years old. After her husbands death she became the Licencee, from 1st July 1879 to the 30th June 1880, of the Royal Albert Hotel at the corner of Troy and Ivy Streets, Darlington. With 8 surviving children to bringup she struggled on until the children grew up which was quite a featin those days. Mary Jane lived on to the ripe old age of 100 years (18July 1954) and received many congratulatory telegrams and mail fromThe Queen, Bishop of Grafton, Australian Parliament House and manyothers. Her birthday celebrations were deferred because of largeflooding of the Richmond River. At her party she stood up, banged thetable with her walking stick and made a speech.
