- It is not certain what happened to the young family after Elizabeth'sdeath in 1884 but the youngest child, Louisa, who was only one yearold, was cared for and raised by Elizabeth's sister PhiladelphiaRumary who later married Edward Horne (1888). Louisa remained withthat family all her life. Edith, the third born child, was the onlyother child of seven to remain in Boorowa although Frances Jane wasnot far away in Harden after she married. Ellen was not far awayeither, at Crookwell for a few years and later in Sydney, while MariaLydia went to New Zealand and James, who served in the AIF during theGreat War, was also in Harden when John died in 1927. (James laterwent to Sydney). John died at " Eastwood" the home of Edward andPhiladelphia Horne after taking ill just two weeks before. He workedon farms around Boorowa all his life. John's birth registration inthe NSW. BDM. Index is listed as "Wesleyan Methodist. Wollongong" .This simply means that his birth date was taken from the WesleyanChurch Baptism Register of a "Circuit" Minister (Circuit meaning atravelling Minister) who probably forgot to indicate where thechristening took place. As registrations were not compulsory until1856 most dates of births, previous to 1856, were taken from theregisters of the various churches. To date 148 descendants have beenfound with 67 spouses. Elizabeth's parents William and Jane (neeOvins) RUMARY were well known land owners and her early death came asa surprise to all. John, who lived for 44 years after her death, didnot remarry. There are several variations in the NSW Indexes thatcaused many a problem in sorting out the real facts about Elizabeth.According to the Index she was born as Elizabeth Rumary and married asElizabeth Rumery. Other family spellings include Rummery and Rummary. On the headstones of her parents in the Boorowa cemetery and on herfather's migration records the name is spelt RUMARY. But the LandsDepartment records of her parents land holdings the name is speltRUMMERY. Also the Index records the marriage between Elizabeth andJohn as having been at Binalong but the St. John's Church Register atBurrowa clearly records the marriage as having taken place there.
