Notes - The Olliver/Oliver families were reasonably prolific locally in the18th and 19th Centuries, being prosperous farmers or mill owners. The most famous local character in the 18th Century (and perhaps eventoday) was John Olliver (1709-1793), and considerable amounts havebeen written about him. John was an eccentric - he was also the Millerof Highdown Hill, a poet, rural philosopher, and a smuggler. However, while it is likely that there is a relationship, this is not our John.
